Graham, Benjamin; The Intelligent Investor: A Book of Practical Counsel 1949 K-Y
NEW YORK, HARPER & BROTHERS, 1949 FIRST ED, HARD BACK
Overall Condition is: GOOD
extremely scarce first edition 1949 K-Y. THIS COPY IS A LATER PRINTING PRINTED IN 1949 a classic author on the Stock Market. Minimal wear to boards, gilt title on spine, lightly age-toned pages. They did however print a 'letter-letter' printing code on the copyright page-a standard procedure for Harper at that time, and known to Bookseller's as the Harper Printing Code'. The first letter was the month of the year ('A' being January, 'B' February etc) and the second letter after hyphen was the Year. Google Harper Printing Code and you will find a table showing the letters Harper used until they abandoned the system. 'D-Y' means April, 1949. The Book was copyrighted in May, 1949, and obviously the original print run done up in the month before its release . The is because the NEW REVISED EDITION did not come out until 1954, so that technically speaking, all PRINTINGS before then are FIRST EDITIONS, even though they might also be LATER PRINTINGS AND PUBLISHED AFTER 1949 ( HOWEVER COPYRIGHT PAGE PRINTED 1949. All PRINTINGS of the Original Edition are collectible, but the most desirable is the First Printing There is some confusion about this as we Booksellers typically use First Edition and First Printing pretty much interchangeably.
