Chautauqua is an adult education movement in the U.S., vastly popular in the late 19th to and early 20th centuries. Chautauqua assemblies extended and stretched throughout rural America until the mid-1920's. The Chautauqua brought entertainment, and culture for the whole community with teachers, entertainers, preachers, speakers, musicians, and specialists of the day. The first Chautauqua was organized in 1874. The Chautauqua movement may be regarded as a successor th the Lyceum movement earlier in the 19th century. As the assemblies began to compete for the best performers and lecturers , lyceum bureaus assisted with bookings. Within a decade. Chautauqua assemblies (or simply Chautauquas), named for the original location in New York State, and sprang up in various locations across North America. The word Album is on the cover made from a silver metal. Velour cover, somewhat soiled, possible reinforced binding, general wear, endpages look lightly foxed, otherwise, good.
