sign of water stains on edges; of The Two Towers & The Return of the King; all set in protective mylar cover; all books are first printings of the 2nd edition; very good octavo hardcovers in good dustjackets; wear to edges of boards with bumping to the head and heel of the spine and on the lower corners of the covers; djs are heavily rubbed and worn along edges; dj of vol. 1 missing i inch of upper right top corner and is heavily faded at spine, less so along top 1/3 of the cover; dj of vol. 2 missing 1/2 inch piece at heel of spine near cover; vol. 2 also has heavier fading at spine; dj of vol. 3 also has tear on lower back corner and less fading along spine, with slight tears on the head and heel of the spine and a small chipmissing from the heel of the spine; upper edge of vol. 2 &3 djs front flaps have waterstains; vol. 1 has a small waterstain at foredge, and some fading to top edge of boards; upper edges of pages (but not their faces) on vol. 2 and 3 have waterstains; front paste-down and free endpapers of vol. 3 also have small waterstain mark at top; pages are lightly browned but not brittle; all volumes have foldout map and vol. 3 contains 6 appendices (1. annals of rulers and kings; 2. Tale of Years (chronology of the Westlands) 3. family trees (Hobbits) 4. calenders, 5. pronunciation and writing of words and names; 6. languages and translation) and index of names; a very good set, despite the potting and fading; djs protected in mylar
