A rock music promoter (Allan Freed himself, rock 'n' roll's first impresario) goes in search of a mystery contestant who won his star-making talent contest. The new teen idol, Johnny Melody, is surrounded by rare performances by rock's founding fathers including Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Valens (his only screen appearance), Jackie Wilson, The Cadillacs and many others. The 2 other films have seperate plots.
